Romans Part 23: Peace through Reconciliation [Romans 5:6-11]
Through the reconciliation Jesus provides in his death, we can be at peace with God. Uniquely, God does ALL the work of reconciliation AND provides the means for it.
Romans Part 22: Peace through Faith [Romans 5:1-5]
Faith is the means by which we can be at peace with God in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Romans Part 21: Promise Secured by Faith [Romans 4:16-25]
Our Faith gives us assurance, and security of the promises of God.
Romans Part 20: Promise Delivered by Faith [Romans 4:13-15]
The promise of God to the Hebrew people, and the promises of God extended to all people, are secured not by the law, but on the basis of faith.
Romans Part 19: Confusing the Confirmation [Romans 4:9-12]
Circumcision, which predates the law, was not a means of being declared righteous, and was evidence of belief, not the means of salvation itself.
Romans Part 18: Faith Predates the Law [Romans 4:1-8]
Abraham's faith as means of being declared righteous predates the Hebrew law.
Romans Part 17: Boasting in a New Law [Romans 3:27-31]
Christians boast in a new law of faith which declares any who believe in Jesus righteous.
Romans Part 16: Declaring the Sinner Righteous [Romans 3:21-26]
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But, God in his grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, declares us righteous.
Romans Part 15: The Law Can't Save You [Romans 3:19-20]
Paul notes that the Jewish people, though loved by God, cannot be saved by the law. The law gives the knowledge of sin by showing you the standard, but it does not deal with the consequences of that sin.
Romans Part 14: None are Righteous [Romans 3:9-18]
Based on God's standard, found both in the underpinnings of the created order and in the Law he has given to man, it is clear that none are righteous.
Romans Part 13: God's Righteousness [Romans 3:1-8]
God's righteousness stands the standard. The Jewish people received the law to hold them accountable to this righteousness. Their failure to meet the standard in no way impacts God's righteousness.
Romans Part 12: A Case Study of Circumcision [Romans 2:25-29]
The Jews had physical circumcision. Here, Paul notes this is not criteria to be a part of the people of God. Rather, a changed heart is the necessary requirement to be God's people.
Romans Part 11: The Implications of Being Under the Law [Romans 2:17-24]
Just as there are implications for unbelief, there are implications for being under the law, and not living like it.
Romans Part 10: The Divine Standard - Jesus Christ [Romans 2:12-16]
God uses a divine standard by which all people will be judged. Here, Paul notes how God's judgment is based on Jesus Christ. How he lived and what could be accomplished in his death are crucial to God's judgment, and will be a key reference point later in the letter.
Romans Part 9: The Divine Standard - Impartiality [Romans 2:6-11]
God uses a divine standard by which all people will be judged. Here, Paul notes how God's judgment is based on impartiality, his standard being equally applied and the offer of salvation being equally offered to all.
Romans Part 8: The Divine Standard - Truth [Romans 2:1-5]
God uses a divine standard by which all people will be judged. Here, Paul notes how God's judgment is based in truth and reality.
Romans Part 7: The Consequences of Unbelief Part 3 [Romans 1:28-32]
The consequences of unbelief result in being given over to sin, despite knowing one will face ramifications and consequences. As such, sin, when fed, grows.
Romans Part 6: The Consequences of Unbelief Part 2 [Romans 1:26-27]
When we exchange the worship of God for who he is, we will exchange the function of God's creation for how he intended it.
Romans Part 5: The Consequences of Unbelief Part 1 [Romans 1:24-25]
A natural consequence of unbelief is being given over to the sinful passions they desire more than that faith and in turn, the natural consequences of being in that position.
Romans Part 4: An Alternative to Righteousness by Faith [Romans 1:18-23]
Paul presents the alternative to being declared righteous by faith in Christ. It is, namely a rejection of who God made you to be and an abandonment to sin.
